How SecureID works
A phone-native digital travel credential, built on ICAO Doc 9303 and the ICAO Digital Travel Credential (DTC) framework. Compatible with every modern eGate worldwide.
1. Online application
Citizens apply through the State Department web portal in under 10 minutes. The system reuses existing biometric records from previous passport applications when available.
2. Biometric verification
Liveness-protected selfie is matched 1:1 against the State Department's facial recognition archive. Fingerprint and iris capture is optional and follows NIST IAL3 standards.
3. Credential signing
A new digital travel credential is created with the citizen's biometric template, personal data, and travel authorizations. It is signed by the State Department's Country Signing Certificate Authority (CSCA).
4. Wallet delivery
The credential is delivered to Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, or a dedicated SecureID app. Stored exclusively in the device's secure enclave — never in cloud storage.
5. Border crossing
At any ICAO-compatible eGate, the traveler taps their phone, looks at a camera, and walks through. Average processing time: under 10 seconds.
